A LOT of children with autism have elopement behaviors. This means they will run as far away as possible. This is scary, but I see a mom who is exhausted and in a position that not many understand. I’m happy he was safe.

This is why my son is registered at our local police station with a picture and all his info just in case he elopes because he got passed the locks and alarms for some reason!

Her kid having autism doesn't mean she gets to let the dogs & cats leave feces spread and smeared around the house. They've also let this happen 3/4 times before. But the state of the home and the neglect of ALL the kids needs 0 defending in the comments. They're terrible parents.

My oldest son was a runner I went to go switch clothes in the basement and he would take off down the road we had to put chain locks on the doors does it make me a shitty mom? No. It happens he’s 13 now.

My youngest was like this and he managed to escape the house (2 locks, then a locked storm door) in the time it took me to drain hamburger meat. He was JUST with me! He was 18 months old at the time. I bought a door alarm immediately after

As a mom with a autistic daughter who elopes a lot, it's hard and it's so so scary. as soon as my daughter figured out how to unlock the regular locks I got top locks but she's figured out how to pull a chair to that lock and unlock it. it's never a dull moment. we have to keep a close eye on her at all times and now we have cameras and alarms on our doors for this reason. We had this happen once and thank God our neighbors kept her safe!

Register your child w the local sherriff dept. also, a bracelet w name, number and address. make it an anklet if the wrist is too much. my son had a brain tumor and has a shunt. I informed all debts near us.

I did this as a toddler. My mom worked two jobs including an overnight factory job and while she was asleep, I walked to the store. My father had just abandoned us. Please give mothers some grace.

My autistic son will do absolutely everything to run and get out. I mean he figured out 5 different types of locks he'd never seen before. We became friends with police to know he was non verbal and and elopement issues

I put my autistic 3 yo grandson to lay down for a nap. it was hot, so he was just in a diaper. I sat outside on the grass to read a book with the front door open so I could hear him if he cried. 30 minutes later a police officer came down carrying my grandson . I absolutely panicked. He had quietly snuck out the door and walked up the road. AWFUL

My son was an eloped and a Houdini. He would leave a trail of clothes and would be butt naked. Ppl will judge you and not think twice and never ask a question.
