I work healthcare Public Safety and we go hands on almost every night in the ED the way it should be to keep the staff safe. We also work for the hospital not contracted out. That makes a difference.

Our hospital security is located at another hospital 2 1/2 hours away, we have none on site. They are rarely available. We have to call the police most of the time.

I’m hospital security for a county hospital. We go hands on every day. We also have our own PD in house that we can call and on average it takes 60 seconds to get to the call. We are allowed to go hands on if needed. In my training I went hands on multiple times without being asked and our admin and PD have our backs no matter what.

being armed hospital security helps a little and I mean a little but some of these dudes think we are cops or special forces when we are just Paul Blart with a gun lol some of the people that come through here boy oh boy this is very accurate lol

Def not the situation im my dept. Officers are trained to put themselves between pts and staff when it hits the fan. also trained in de escalation tactics to prevent hands on situations.

While this guy is funny, I can say that our security at my hospital are great! Their department is like every other department short staffed, don’t have the necessary equipment. They have to be PA330’s and they have to go hands on.
