Situations like this make me think that many of us will never truly be happy with what we have because we’re often pursuing things for the wrong reasons. Instead of doing things because it’s what we genuinely want, we’re doing them to prove someone else wrong. The truth is, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. When we learn to accept that, life becomes a lot easier. No, every opinion doesn’t need to be spoken out loud, but that’s not always how people operate. I also believe that people don’t usually form opinions out of thin air. Right or wrong, they’re often basing those opinions on behaviors or observations they’ve seen. In this situation, it could have been something about the way she carried herself in school that led the family member to make that assumption. Should they have said it? Probably not. But they did. What I’ve noticed is that when people are hurt by comments like that, they sometimes spend the rest of their lives trying to prove that person wrong. The problem is that their motivation becomes validation rather than personal fulfillment. Instead of pursuing something because they truly desire it, they’re pursuing it to win an argument that may have happened years ago. At some point, we have to stop living in response to other people’s opinions and start living for ourselves.

I was told after six months I would drop out… got my associates.. a year later I’m working on my bachelors and will be graduating early in March next year. She also use to like all my posts. I blocked her because I don’t need that negative energy on social media accounts.
