Hey Alyce. I just want to say thank you for your content. I relate to it and you so much, it’s like watching myself sometimes! I haven’t made the progress you have. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself, I am 30 and up in my eyeballs in debt and you have made so much progress. But like you I also question whether I have ADHD, I’ve been diagnosed with depression since 19 and the impulse buying is so huge for me - I think it’s the dopamine that I am missing and scratches something in my brain. But I have no idea why I do it!! I just wanted to share you’re not alone and you have also made me feel less alone in this!

Got diagnosed with ADHD after 5 years of a constant debt cycle - there is ZERO help after. I went private for a diagnosis, my DMs are open if you want to chat about it x

I found that it was rooted in anxiety and spiral thinking. I can’t stop overthinking to the point that the stress and mental turmoil reaches a breaking point and pressing the button to check out closes the loop. The easiest way to get rid of the stressful, slow process of budgeting for and deciding whether or not to buy something is to just buy it. But obviously long-term it does more damage.

I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD after years of being told I have depression and anxiety. My medication for ADHD has helped me, still impulsive but when you know that it’s part of your condition. Ask to go to right to choose.

My doctor didn’t even see me but did refer me as I asked to do right to choose, I was diagnosed two months later x

ask your gp for right to choose referral. they can't refuse you at least doing the initial questionnaires. once you've done those you will get to choose your provider and go on a waitlist 🥰

Got told I had it by a psychiatrist but she wasn’t there for that so said “I can’t actually give you an official diagnosis”🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️now I’ve been on the waiting list for 3 years

This is why I decided to go private! The NHS waiting list and dismissive attitude was really deflating 💕 how they can dismiss you because you don’t look like you have ADHD is so disappointing!! I am like you and struggle with my impulsive spending - really trying this year to get my debt under control

That’s awfully dismissive of the GP?! I went with similar issues amongst some other things and got immediately referred down the right to choose pathway for ADHD diagnosis, where the waiting list is definitely NOT 5 years. I’d push harder 1000% and make sure you don’t see the same doctor.
