I have tattoos I can’t hide without completely covering my whole body. We just got back from Japan.. Shinjuku, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Osaka & Shinjuku… I wore whatever I wanted. I had 0 issues with anything I wore. No one stared, no one said I couldn’t be in an establishment. I did not have to dress a specific way. We had rainy days & super hot days. My advice, wear whatever is comfortable for you, based on weather 😘

I lived in Japan and they really do not care what you wear. However tattoos are frowned upon in certain areas and establishments (especially beaches and onsens)

i went to some temples/shrines in nara and kyoto today and i wore a mini skirt and flowy tank top. i didn't get any weird looks or comments really and i understand a good bit of japanese! i wear what i want because i care more about my safety and enjoyment in the heat. but other than that, i try to be as respectful as possible and i studied the language a lot so that i could communicate well :) if you want to be modest, go for it but honestly i think its better to put yourself first and prioritize your own needs and comfort
