@wildsightings.cpm: This is the magical moment an otter gave birth and immediately started grooming her pup. Kindra McHenry was walking around Morro Bay, California, USA, when she spotted an expectant mother getting ready to give birth. The marine mammal serenely floated on her back before starting to twist and roll just below the surface of the water. Suddenly she resurfaced holding on to her newborn baby before immediately starting to groom it while continuing to bob. Kindra said: "Honestly, I didn’t realise the otter was in labor and giving birth until after there was a baby on her chest. "It was just pure shock and awe for me. Searching for confirmation I turned to two ladies next to me and asked if we'd all just seen a birth. "They both exclaimed 'yes'. They work for a local organisation called Sea Otter Savvy who helps protect the local otter population. "They explained it’s incredibly rare to see and we all felt incredibly lucky to have witnessed it. "The visible labour was all of two minutes from start to finish which explains the rarity of footage outside of captivity. "I’ve spent a lot of time observing the otters in this area and I had a sense that something was off with this one. "She was acting a bit strange by rolling and flipping slowly and I was considering reporting her for a wellness check to the city." #otter #california #babyanimals #wildlifephotography #noAI
