Ryan Heart was handed a 13-year extended sentence after executing a predatory campaign of grooming and sexual exploitation against four victims, including young teenagers and an infant, immediately after his previous court-ordered behavior restrictions lapsed. TOY SHOP OPERATION AND SYSTEMATIC GROOMING OF VULNERABLE FAMILIES An investigation conducted by Derbyshire Constabulary established that Ryan Heart was originally convicted of sexual offenses against a woman in the West Midlands in 2012, receiving a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). Following the expiration of those terms, he immediately launched a new campaign of abuse in the Peak District, capitalizing on his role as an operational children's toy shop owner to identify and target victims. Ryan Heart specifically sought out financially vulnerable, struggling mothers who visited his establishment. He dismantled their defenses by offering one woman cash loans and hiring the other to work in his shop, telling her she could bring her young children to the workplace. After systematically gaining the parents' trust through gifts, clothing, and financed family days out, Ryan Heart manipulated his access to spend time completely alone with the children. The forensic investigation uncovered an extensive network of abuse spanning multiple targets: He transmitted graphic, explicit messages to a 14-year-old child and on two occasions put his head in her lap while making sexual comments. He asked two victims, who were 16, to perform a sex act in exchange for cash. He sexually assaulted a woman in her 20s who came into his shop looking for a specific toy, taking her phone number and pressuring her to accept a cash loan at his shop where he touched her breast. He offered that same mother a bribe of £1,000 if she would provide him with an image of her six-year-old daughter in her underwear. The long-term abuse was uncovered after Ryan Heart's own partner grew suspicious of his highly inappropriate relationship with one of the 16-year-old victims and intervened to alert a mother, triggering a multi-agency police operation. EXTENDED SENTENCING AND VACATED PLEA DECEPTION Following his arrest by Derbyshire Constabulary, Ryan Heart attempted to manipulate the judicial process. After maintaining absolute denials through initial hearings in 2023, he entered eleventh-hour guilty pleas on the day of his scheduled trial in August 2025. However, in September 2025, he launched a deceptive legal maneuver by filing a formal application to completely vacate those pleas back to "not guilty" in a desperate bid to force a retrial. In December 2025, the sentencing judge dismissed his application, branding his actions highly calculated, and remanded him into high-security custody. On 19 March 2026, the court concluded the proceedings by declaring Ryan Heart an entrenched, high-risk threat to the public.
