Heat your oven to 450. Scrub with soap and water using steel wool to get the rusty spots off. Put it in the oven today quickly. Pull it out and let it cool. Lightly oil it with a high temp oil like avocado oil. Wipe off all of the excess. Put it in your hot oven for 1 hour. Then turn the oven off after one hour and do not open your oven until the next morning. Leave it in there over night. Then it will be seasoned until the next time you accidentally put it in the dishwasher. Only ceramic coated cast iron grates should goin the dishwasher. Do this periodically to keep it seasoned and easily cleanable.
