Plus the pitcher can only throw to first twice in an at bat. That means after 2, the runner can basically take as big a lead as he wants. Ricky stole 130 back then, he could probably steal 200 bases now a days

Rickey would easily have 250-300 per season. The year he had 130 he had a .398 OBP. 64 walks and 105 singles. That’s 169 chances to steal 2 bases easily. Plus he had 24 doubles.

However many, Rickey would steal about 3x as many as Lofton. No disrespect to Kenny Lofton. Rickey could literally steal a base every time he got on base.

Coleman, Lofton, Raines, and maybe others would see 150 or close to it. Rickey flirts with 200 probably 10 times in his career and gets there once or twice.

I think it all depends on what the bean counters in analytics determine the value of a steal is. I don’t know that any of them would get the green light the way they had in their era. To much reliance on analytics. Not enough feel for the game.

For someone to break Ricky Henderson‘s all-time stolen base record they would have to play 20 seasons with with an average of 71 base stolen a year. Was Ricky broke Brock’s record he said I am the greatest. He was the greatest baseball all steel stealing leader of all time

A quick Kenny lofting story this older gentleman was a fan of the 1995 Cleveland Indians you don’t see that went to the World Series and lost to the Braves David Justice home run. Anyhow he had a baseball bat that he was getting all the players from that team side. He’s one more autograph Kenny Lofton heard of a story katie Lofton flew down to Central America to get Tony Peñas autograph and guess what he did he brought the back back to the gentleman who was in the hospital at the time Kenny is more than just a baseball player who stole a lot of bases got a lot of hits. He’s in the Hall of Fame of life.
