Particularly the way this impacts Black women, Indigenous women, and women of color. speaking as a survivor - The system works actively against victims/survivors. The ENTIRE system. You can get advocates and stuff but the legal and family system is set up to trap them. im out (hes incarcerated now for other reasons for the long term) but I will have a very hard time letting anyone too close again.

DFS found my ex-husband guilty of molestation and told me if I allowed him around the kids they would put them in foster care. after 3 years family court decided I was alienating the kids and didn't care what DFS had said. they gave him full custody and I had supervised visits. he went on to molest another daughter with no recourse.

Thank you for looking into this. I saw a message her daughter shared under a post and I can't believe an 18 yr old child had to put grown ass adults in check for talking sideways about how they were saying her mom got what she deserved. This makes things so much clearer.

it was her life or his. nothing is right. not only does she have to heal from the trauma of abuse, but she then has to heal from what she had to do to get out.

Thank you for bringing this problem into the light. I would like to know at what point does the self-defense laws apply in abusive relationships? Not only our survivors of sexual assault being locked up for defending themselves and protecting themselves, they're being further abused in the prison system. Here's an article from California written by Elizabeth Lozano who survived essay while incarcerated in California now free she advocates for women in prison. I'll add the link below.

I feel like an extra month needs to be tacked on to police training just for family related abuse and I feel like all judges need to do the same training before taking the bench.
