It’s a really big contradiction when you stop and think about it. For hundreds of years, Western society has pictured Jesus as a white man — but that’s just how European artists painted him to look like themselves. The truth is he was a brown-skinned man from the Middle East, from the same region many people now look down on. - The Crusaders back then weren’t really acting on what Jesus taught anyway — it was more about power, land and control. Even though they were going to the very place he came from, they saw the local people as enemies, never making the connection that these folks looked just like the man they claimed to follow. - And today? You see it still. Some people accept the idea of Jesus, the version they’ve grown up seeing in pictures and churches — but they separate that from the real man he was. They forget he was a refugee, someone who knew what it was like to be a stranger in a strange land. So it’s easy for them to hold harsh views against migrants and people from those same parts of the world, even though those people look far more like the real Jesus than the image they’ve made up. - They can accept him because they’re not actually seeing him as he was — they’re seeing a version that was made to feel like “one of us.” It’s the same pattern again: changing the story to suit how you want to see the world, while treating real people unfairly just because they’re different.
