His declaration for independence for cyberspace is still used in internet law classes in law school today

I’m in grad school and one of the classes touched on privacy data laws. The STARK contrast between the laws and sentiment around personal data in the EU and the US is eye-opening.

I’ve known about EFF for years. I’ve donated before but it’s been a while. This is a good reminder it’s time to donate again, so thank you!

We need a Federal Digital/Internet Bill of Rights. Folks are largely signing their rights and privacy away via the fine print in their ISP and Cell Service contracts before they ever hit an app or a web browser.

I CACKLED when you said EFF. My boss made me lead a workshop on our lack of data privacy, and I learned so much from their website!

To be fair, the 90s were essentially the Wild West when it came to the WWW! We were all just dancing in the dark when it came to cyber knowledge and I’m happy that people like John had 20/20 foresight!! This is why I am listening to experts who are warning us against AI right now! Everyone needs to have humility when it comes to being educated by experts in their field! We don’t know what we don’t know but let’s learn before it’s too late!!

The NGO the Internet Society is another group to check out, particularly if you’re not in the US. I freelanced for them for 8 years working on policy papers mainly. The EFF is great, don’t get me wrong. Americans especially should use their tools and resources!

I’m so proud. One of my clients is the incredible Cindy Cohn, the executive director of the EFF (she’s only retiring right now). She’s a G. She did a full interview with John Stewart recently. You should check it out.

A lyricist for the Grateful Dead… and they were first artists (by a mile, I think) to use email marketing and the internet to connect with their fans. I wonder if he was in on that or if it was just part of the group’s culture.

Lemme tell you, that old saying “don’t judge a book by its cover” my husband was a rough neck in the oilfield & moved up. But people actually take him for granted bc of his job & his looks. He’s actually the smartest person I’ve ever met in my life. That’s what this man & his level of intelligence reminds me of! I love this! Def reposting!
