Em, there is a young couple called Roll with Cole and Charisma. He was paralyzed at 16...sound familiar? He met a woman at therapy...able bodied...and asked her out on a date. They are married now, living their best life traveling etc and are trying to have a baby. He drives, even though he has no more use of his hands than ypu do. Your life may not end up how you envisioned it at 16 but trust me when I say this, it doesn't mean it can't be even better, just different. You are such a special soul and I want you to KNOW that there is someone out there who will look at you as if you are their world.

My aunt was in an accident when she was 18. She’s been paralyzed ever since. She is now turning 57 with a beautiful family. Her boys are 26 and 22!! If you would ever want to hear from another perspective she is beautiful inside and out and would LOVE to speak to you🩷

i struggle with this too as someone who is disabled. i’m nineteen, i’m not in college, i can’t work, will never live alone, can never have kids, i’m sure i won’t find my soulmate. i am super close with my cousins and i love watching them have fun - swimming, running and part of me loves it but jealousy seriously eats me alive.. not only with them, but girls my age. i will never accept that this is my life and i think that’s okay. i’ll forever grieve the life i was supposed to and thought id have as a little girl. thank you for sharing - you’re not alone🤎

I’m so sorry! My 22 year old son is a C5-7 complete and it breaks my heart everyday and I know he thinks about the same exact things you are talking about! You are adorable and you have such a great attitude and I know that some days are worse than others! God does have a plan! Keep your head high! There is a reason for all of this even if we don’t know why yet 🥰

My son says the same thing all the time. It’s heartbreaking sometimes. But you are right God has a plan for both of you.

All valid feelings. I hear you and see you. One does not accept the condition and your done. Sometimes you need to try accept it minute by minute or hour by hour, day by day...no small task.

I’m paralyzed too and I understand your grief so much. Being a mom is my biggest dream but needing so much help with everything myself can be super discouraging. But like you said I know God has a plan for me and He placed these desires on my heart for a reason. Some days are just heavier than others and that’s okay💗

My mom had a friend who hit her head at the bottom of a lake I believe and she was paralyzed from the neck down. She really wanted a family and a husband. Everyone around her got married and she wanted that too, wanted to be a wife and everything. She met her now husband and he takes care of her and she was able to have kids. She's happy and so loved by her husband. If that is a desire, God gave you that desire for a reason. It'll happen for you and it is completely possible to have that unconditional love of someone taking care of you wholly and completely ❤️

Your feelings are valid and you are allowed to grieve and feel this way while also believing and having faith that god has a plan for you. Both can exist. You’re inspiring.

My brother was in an accident at 19 years old. He was in a coma and like you had to learn everything over again with the help of my parents and siblings. You will always grieve the person you once were and we as a family had to let go of the brother he once was but there is ways for you to have an independent life, to fall in love, have children and be whoever the person it is you want to. It’s all mindset! Sure There are tough days and good days and many days you feel like you miss out but I can tell you personally there is a future for you. You just got to believe! If my brother can do it! I know you can too!!! One day at a time sunshine! 💕

My father was injured 16 years ago, and I grieve in much the same way you describe. I can truly feel your sorrow. I often find myself thinking about the “what ifs.” What if the injury had happened lower down? What if he had been able to keep the use of his hands? At the same time, I am grateful that he is even alive. Even though I’m not the one living with the injury, I still carry that grief with me. I think about all the things he could have done but will never get the chance to do again. I think about how different life might have been for him, for me, and for our family. And even though I genuinely love my life today, there will always be a part of me that mourns the life that could have been. I don’t think that feeling will ever completely leave me. It has simply become part of who I am. My greatest hope is that one day spinal cord injuries will not mean a lifetime of disability, but something that can actually be healed, like a broken bone. That people won’t be left permanently changed by it, but instead can fully recover. Sending you love. Your grief is deeply felt, even by those of us who have experienced it from the sidelines ❤️
