One day I went down to the dumpster to throw out some trash. and someone threw away boxes of DVD's, Blue Ray's, Ultraviolet, and even games. My wife was worried because I was Miss for about an hour dumpster diving! 😂

I did this with a Synology NAS and a Plex server in 2014 when we cut the cord. We have never had a single streaming service. And I use an over-the-air antenna into a DHhomerun to record live TV. We have never stopped buying physical media. It's really nice to own them.

Not having kids but what if I start this and get a website and maybe set it in a way where the domain remains online even after I pass?

physical media is the way (just in case the internet goes wonky). your own streaming server is pretty epic.

there are some caveats to this. yes you should definitely consider doing this BUT take what I'm about to say into consideration first: 1) it's better if you have your own NAS storage system 2) and 3) laptops aren't ideal solutions same with external hard drives. you would have to keep your laptop up and running and plugged in all the time if you're planning to do this with a laptop and you would have to keep your external media storage plugged in all the time as well. if your external media storage gets knocked around where it's no longer being read or it gets unplugged from the USB port then Jellyfin will no longer detect your movies
