I don’t know why people think Clark is this relatable and great character. I was thinking the same thing, end of the day he was being mean to his wife because she was trying to finish college, contribute to the family, and didn’t want him ruining his own life with alcohol. He had a strong resentment because his own dream didn’t pan out. Once she finished her schooling a lot of the issues would have went away and he most likely could have pursued his dream with her support.

like yes there's all these theories but it's HEAVILY implied he may have killed his wife. when he's captured Mary, he tells her the Still Lifes don't feel pain or fear (scalping the red head for her hair and straight up gonna eat the man). when he's introducing them, he hesitates on the red head, not implying who she might be. since we know the backrooms creates them based off MEMORIES, it's almost 100% likely the woman is his wife. putting these 2 things together, the woman is AFRAID of Captain Clark when he enters the room, meaning the woman the Still Life is based off of, is afraid of the man that Captain Clark is based off of
