@selah.joy.official: Let’s remember the real scam is convincing the public that plastic is clothing. This study shows two important things: 1. Agricultural chemicals used in cotton production can pose concerns for the environment and for worker exposure. 2. The specific cotton defoliants studied were completely removed during standard alkaline scouring, a common textile processing step. This means the finished textile can be very different from the raw cotton coming out of the field. Does that mean we shouldn’t care about environmental impact or worker exposure? Of course not. But it also means we can’t automatically assume that residues detected on raw cotton fibers are present at the same levels in finished garments. Cotton isn’t perfect. No material is. My goal is simply to provide a better alternative to petroleum-based clothing while continuing to improve as we grow. Hopefully one day we’ll have the resources to address even more of these challenges.
