The fuel subsidy debate in Nigeria never really goes away. In conversation with Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, Commission Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), we asked her the question dividing the country: with 2027 approaching and politicians pledging to bring the subsidy back, should Nigeria reverse course? Her answer is no. She likens the calls for a return to the subsidy to the Israelites longing for Egypt in the wilderness — trading a harder but better path for a familiar but detrimental comfort. For her, the real issue isn't the policy. It's that the money freed up since the subsidy was removed hasn't reached the average Nigerian. When it comes to the fuel subsidy policy, are we asking the right questions? Watch the full conversation to learn more! #NativeLandPod #FuelSubsidy #NUPRC #Nigeria2027
