To be fair, by inviting you he was already asking you to buy a plane ticket to hang out. Why should you have to buy the ticket, travel, do the work, pay the money all to see him? That’s inconveniences, time, and money on your part that he doesn’t have to expend and he knows that. He should’ve offered to split the ticket at least when he invited you out.
