KrisMTL :
unmasking ruined my life... have no friends now because I had to set so many boundaries for me...

My parents saw a meltdown. Now they act like I’m 15 seconds from flinging myself into traffic when anything goes wrong.

I know I have ADHD but the psychologist said it’s just anxiety. Just the same way I know i have autism, I’m afraid of being told I’m not and being invalidated

“You were never too sensitive. You were under-supported.” This really resonated with me. I’m learning to make small changes and advocate for myself.

Unmasking made me lose everything and isolate. At first it was devastating but as I’m in it I realize it was necessary for me to 1)find myself and 2)get the help I need. Anyone who feels this way I wish you preference as you find yourself too.

My husband doesn’t get how I “all of a sudden” have these issues. I keep telling him, they’ve always been there, I just didn’t have a name for my struggles.

Finding out who I truly am vs. what was the mask. I took on a new preferred name last year for the new me and my birth name became the name of the mask.

Have you found getting diagnosed to actually be beneficial/helpful. I’m debating if it’s even worth it

I'm sending both of these videos to my parents. Hopefully they'll begin to understand what's been going on with me all my life, and hopefully they won't get offended because they knew they never supported me. They didn't know any better. You've got to give some grace, even to yourself.

Thank you. Diagnosed AuDHD at 40 as well. The grieving process is hard but it gets smaller and easier to carry. If I lived the first half of my life one way, I’ve been given the gift of exploring the second half differently. Like my kids say: I’ve respawned 😂

weird how unmasking actually makes it harder to function in the beginning. crowds of people bother me more nlw, than ever before.. it feels surreal. 45, diagnosed at 44
