@wilhelminamarch: Some of the most impressive ruins I have encountered! Rievaulx Abbey was home to a large group of Cistercian monks and was one of many monasteries seized by Henry VIII after the formation of the Anglican Church. We were there right at closing and got the place almost to ourselves. So very peaceful and also a very good site for tracking the progression from Romanesque to Gothic architecture. #gothic #gothicarchitecture #whimsical #History
