The Asian obsession with being "small". 🙄 🎥 Watch the full video @MonsterTV I already am so done with there being only one kind of beauty standard (the one where everyone looks the same, thanks to the obsession with all things Korean), and then there is this phenomenon of people fighting to be just that little bit behind on the photography plane to look smaller in comparison to their friends. I have been subtly (or at least they think it's not obvious 💀) nudged/pushed to appear more forward in the plane for pictures. Most times I just go with the flow, take the front, and pretend I don't know what the person is trying to do. Some friends and family actually come right out like Jacq did and say it though. My cousin goes as far as to say she will edit my face to make me look "bigger" 🤣 This usually makes me laugh! I love the authenticity, openness and slight vulnerability in the honesty on the intention. It doesn't feel sneaky nor sinister, just very real. I spoke to my mum about this previously, and she said that people who do quietly do this are probably insecure about how they look in pictures. That is true for almost everyone, myself included, but as with everything in life, we can choose our actions in reaction to our feelings. And secondly, how is looking "small" automatically "better"? Finally, and most importantly, here's the real point I hope to spread: if you truly think small = better looking, then is it nice to make your companions look "big" in comparison? Because that would mean you are okay with making them look "uglier" just so you can look smaller = better. Maybe you've never thought about it that way (Jacq didn't!) but there's some food for thought for you. TLDR: do unto others what you would like done to you - it's really not nice!
