The reason these relationships drain so much energy is that you’re still operating under the assumption that if you just explained yourself better or proved them wrong with your work, eventually they’d come around. They won’t. And the more you try, the more you communicate that their opinion matters to you, which gives them power over you. Stop performing for them entirely. Stop trying to be a little warmer when they’re around, stop trying to slip in evidence that contradicts what they think of you, stop noticing when they don’t engage with you. Just be cordial, be professional, and be completely emotionally neutral.

I'm learning this now, I had a toxic TL yelling swearing, plus a toxic GL. I wasn't much of a talker, the only time he would say something to me if I made a mistake. it wasn't really talking, he would yell across the line. Then talk about me to the other part of the line and laugh.
