For anyone new here — I rely on TPN (total parenteral nutrition) because my stomach is paralyzed from gastroparesis, which I developed from CRPS. I can’t eat or drink without getting extremely sick, so all of my nutrition runs through a central line directly into my bloodstream. That one bag? It costs about $1,000 before insurance, and that doesn’t include the tubing, supplies, delivery, or nursing care that go along with it. I run it for 18 hours a day, every day. Dinner for my kids was about $10. Nothing fancy — just a normal family meal. I know it might seem strange to cook when you can’t eat, but it helps me feel a sense of normalcy. I’ve only been living this way for just under three years, and before that, my life looked pretty typical. Cooking is one small way I still get to participate.
