There is certainly something there there, so to speak, with the scandal shifting voters *toward* Platner. What's interesting is that, in the abstract, scandals have been found to decrease support significantly (they imply that a candidate is low quality [what we in the biz call valence]), but there's something about the messenger (the establishment) that's influencing the information (affect transfer in the motivated reasoning framework). I wonder too about the lack of realism in these experiments about scandals—there's also a big difference between "accused" and "guilty" that is almost certainly a part of this. Anyway, phenomenal work and this is already inspiring some research ideas (you'll get an acknowledgement if anything comes of it).

I live in Idaho, not Maine. The only “choices” in this hardcore MAGA state are various shades of Nazi. I am thoroughly SICK of “when they go low, we go high”. I can easily see the appeal of a Platner type. My only hesitation is him becoming a turncoat, ala Fetterman. But other than that? Yeah, set him loose.
