I had a history teacher that disliked “melting pot” because it would imply that we’d all melt into one, he used the term “Mosaic” because we’re all different little unique tiles making one large beautiful picture ❤️

It’s really apparent too when you meet someone fully raised abroad. I told a Swedish abroad student I was also part Swedish mixed with mostly indigenous Honduran and she was like “Wow how did your parents even meet?” I laughed and said “In Tampa Florida at a basketball game!”

That’s our super power. Hence why it has been so demoralizing and upsetting to see that super power, the melting pot of ethnicities and races connected by creed and not blood, distorted into something ugly and met with hostility. When ever I think about permanently leaving America that’s what stops me, I would miss being surrounded by so many different TYPES of people from so many different backgrounds.

This is maybe the one thing about America that i'm genuinely patriotic about. Like to be American is to be of the world, I'm proud to have Irish ancestry and I'm proud to have Korean, Mexican, Black, Native, Chinese, Arab neighbors.
