@threadofeverything: Genesis 3:16, "your desire (*teshukah*) shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you," is almost always taught as God's design for marriage. It is not. It sits inside the curse, named in the same breath as thorns and pain in childbirth, the list of what the fall broke, not how things ought to be. Before the fall there is no ruling at all: the woman is *ezer kenegdo* (Gen 2:18), a strong help corresponding to the man, and *ezer* is the same word the Bible uses for God Himself rescuing Israel (Ps 121). Chrysostom said it sixteen hundred years ago: the woman was not called to submission before the fall. The word *teshukah* appears only three times in the Old Testament: cursed in Genesis 3:16, predatory in Genesis 4:7 (sin's desire to master Cain), and then healed in Song of Songs 7:10, "I am my beloved's, and his desire is toward me," the same word, the arrow re-aimed, no ruling anywhere in it. It lands pure in the Bride's "Come" at Revelation 22:17. This is not a debate about who leads a marriage. It is that the Bible calls a man ruling over a woman part of the curse, and then spends the rest of itself undoing it. It was never the sentence. It was the diagnosis. And the Doctor spent the whole book healing you. #Teshukah #Genesis316 #BiblicalWomanhood #SongOfSongs #Desire

Also, I notice the distinct words.. in genesis 3 “your desire shall be For HIM and he shall rule over you.” It’s one way, not reciprocated. We see a deeper understanding of “the ruling over” in genesis 4.. and the

Exactly he redeemed all of it . Cause he loved you so much. That he redeemed it right down to the finite details. God cares about the little details.

And and and, Adam didn’t name her Eve until after sin. They were known as man and woman, working together.

me and my husband have always said I come from his side to be beside me, not from the foot to be under him, not from the head to be over him. we are partners in how we navigate our marriage and, hopefully, the upbringing of our kids some day.

What struck me is that the sorrow mentioned in Genesis 3 wasn’t just about labor pains. It points to the whole burden of bringing forth life in a fallen world. Infertility, miscarriages, endometriosis, stillborns, childbirth, all of it.
The same Hebrew root being used for God’s grief in Genesis 6 is such a powerful reminder that women’s suffering isn’t treated as small or unimportant in Scripture.
