@nick.from.pa: There is something I need people to understand. What started as a father’s pursuit of justice for his own family became something much bigger than I ever imagined. In fighting for my son and his mother after the crash that changed our lives, I began hearing from other families. I uncovered stories that no community ever wants to admit exist within its own borders. Stories involving allegations of child sexual abuse. Stories involving the encouragement of self-harm. Stories involving the deaths of children. Stories of parents who felt ignored, dismissed, or too afraid to speak because they believed nobody would listen. It is a heartbreaking state of affairs in North Huntingdon Township right now. While I am deeply honored and humbled by the love, prayers, and support that continue to pour in for my family, I cannot ignore the fact that there are many other children and families in this community who deserve that same compassion, attention, and pursuit of truth. This was never supposed to be just about us. If there is any purpose in what my family has endured, perhaps it is this: to shine a light into places where darkness has been allowed to grow and to remind people that every child matters, every person who has been harmed deserves to be heard, and every family deserves accountability when institutions fail them. The measure of a community is not whether tragedy ever reaches its doorstep. The measure of a community is whether it has the courage to confront uncomfortable truths when it does. To the families carrying burdens in silence: you are not alone. We can support the officers, teachers, public servants, and neighbors who do the right thing while still asking for transparency, accountability, and justice from those who do not. For my family, for your family, and for every child who deserves to grow up safe and protected, we cannot look away. Silence has never healed wounds.
