I've generally interpreted the gaudy tie as the cheapest silk tie he could get, so it still fits his "good enough for business" vibe. It's funky, kinda cheese, but still good enough for business attire.

my interpretation of the tie relates heavily to his overtime binding vow & his dream of vacationing in Malaysia. Someone else also pointed out how similar it is visually to his cleaver, but beyond that is, in my opinion, a very clear connection between his desire to escape the sorcerer life, go on vacations, and generally have a life that isn't so significant that something like a goofy tie would seem so weird.

Nanamis outfit does a really good job of showing his character, the contrast between the suit and the tie is the contrast between nanamis role as a jujutsu sorcerer and nanamis role as an adult, he's a jujutsu sorcerer as a job so his suit is basic to represent he doesn't particularly care beyond getting the job done but peel back his layers and underneath is a stark contrast with vibrant colours and patterns someone who genuinely cares about others and protecting the lives of younger sorcerers someone opposed to the conservatives of jujutsu society but still unable to make meaningful change to how jujutsu society works

I actually think the button down collar works for Nanami - of course it was 100% made with animation in mind, but it makes sense that Nanami, who's pretty no-bullshit on the job and laser focuses on it, would not want his collar to do funky stuff in battle, like flap up or crinkle or move.
