Sawamura Yodogorō II and Bandō Zenji as Kawatsura Hōgen and Onisadobō in the Play "Koinyōbō Somewake Tazuna" is a 1794 color woodblock print by the enigmatic artist Tōshūsai Sharaku. This masterpiece of the yakusha-e (actor portrait) subgenre captures a moment of high dramatic tension from a contemporary Kabuki production. Sharaku eschewed the idealized, flattering conventions favored by other ukiyo-e printmakers of the Edo period. Instead, he introduced a bold, almost caricature-like realism that highlighted the actors' raw emotional intensity, contorted stage makeup, and dynamic physical gestures. Set against a dark, shimmering mica-dusted background (kira-e), the contrasting, expressive faces of the frowning Yodogorō II and the wide-eyed Zenji exemplify how Sharaku condensed an entire narrative conflict into a single, visually arresting psychological snapshot. 東洲斎写楽による***『二代目沢村淀五郎の川連法眼と初代坂東善次の鬼佐渡坊』***（1794年、大判錦絵）は、歌舞伎の演目『義経千本桜』に取材した浮世絵の傑作です。謎多き絵師・写楽は、当時の一般的な浮世絵師たちが好んだ理想化された美化を敢えて避け、役者たちのリアルな感情の爆発や誇張された舞台メイク、そしてダイナミックな身振りをそのまま描き出すという、風刺画に近い大胆なリアリズムを導入しました。黒く輝く暗色の黒雲母摺（くろうんじずり）の背景を背に、口を開けて前を見据える右側の淀五郎（善人方の川連法眼）と、口を結び目を剥く左側の善次（悪坊主の鬼佐渡坊）という、善悪が鮮やかに対比された二人の表情は、舞台の緊迫した心理的相克の瞬間を見事に一枚の画面へと凝縮しています。#japan #japaneseart #anime #kabuki #arthistory
