@xplorya: In Classical Greece (5th century BC), ordinary citizens built their own homes using three materials: rough stone for the foundations to protect against moisture, sun-dried mud bricks for the walls — mixed from clay, straw and water and dried in the sun for weeks — and terracotta tiles for the roof. The house was built around a central courtyard called the aule, open to the sky. This was the heart of daily life — cooking, washing, raising children all happened here. A stone cistern collected rainwater. The floor was packed earth. Inside, walls were painted deep red ochre on the lower half — a pigment made from iron-rich clay found locally. Furniture was minimal: a klinai, a wooden bed with leather straps, served as both bed and sofa. Large clay amphoras stored olive oil, wine and grain. There were no windows facing the street. The house was completely closed to the outside world — all light and air came from the courtyard. Privacy and protection, not openness. We know all of this from excavations at Olynthos in northern Greece, where an entire Classical neighborhood was preserved after the city was destroyed by Philip II of Macedon in 348 BC. The design is very valid, inside floor, should be straw mixed with clay to create a design similar to industrial floor, slick and easy to wash. The lower paint is a mix of teracota and copper, the classic grapevines are missing from the aule. Is this kling? Also i would assume this is pre 7th century, 5th century should be two-story building no?
