So both of you have a poor understanding of how cats segregate spaces... Cats segregate space in two sections: One is their home turf which they'll protect since it's essentially their living space. They hunt, sleep and explore said space to ensure safety for them and their fellow cats (including their humans). The second space is everything outside their home turf, they will very rarely enter that outside space, they'll do so only to entertain themselves (by exploring and only if this need isn't met within their home turf) or hunt in desperate situations since it's dangerous cause they don't know the topography and can easily get lost and stranded out there. If you meet all their needs inside the home there is near zero chance they'll walk out and just go on an adventure. My cat is 1.5 yo, I've had her since she was 2 and I regularly allow windows open and she has never ran away once, she is keen about the outside but she has never even tried to escape. She just sits there and watches.
