I prefer using a mitered seam. Depending on the direction the building faces, I'll orient the miter so it's less visible, making the seam almost disappear when viewed down the side of the building.

That joint should not be butt ends but rather angle cut so when there’s expansion and contraction, it doesn’t open up.
