@fr3ak3d0utliz: The Karmelo Anthony case has divided a lot of people, and after looking at the details, I think multiple things can be true at once. I believe there was an element of self-defense. I believe there were mistakes made by more than one person involved. I also believe a young life was tragically lost, and that’s something that can never be undone. At the same time, I struggle with the idea that a 35-year sentence is the right outcome. I believe accountability matters, but I also believe context matters. This feels like one of those heartbreaking cases where everyone loses. These are simply my thoughts and opinions after following the case. You don’t have to agree with me, and that’s okay. I’m interested in hearing different perspectives as long as we can keep the conversation respectful. Where do you stand on this case? #KarmeloAnthony #TrueCrimeDiscussion #CurrentEvents #JusticeSystem #RespectfulDebate

As parents, we have a responsibility not only to protect our children, but also to teach empathy, emotional regulation, accountability, and respect for others. As a Black parent raising a son, I value diversity and am mindful of environments where we may be underrepresented, but I also believe our children must learn how to navigate differences with humanity and understanding. Adults have a responsibility to intervene when children are being bullied and when children are doing the bullying. There were failures on multiple levels in this situation, and the outcome is heartbreaking. My heart truly breaks for everyone involved..the victim, the families, and the young lives forever changed by this tragedy.

this is why I leave people alone. & teach my kids to never bully anyone or go along with bullying. You never know what someone is going through and if they’re at their breaking point.

The sentence he got seems excessive and after the jury found him guilty, I was more surprised at the sentencing than the verdict. For this child, and yes 17 is still a child, to react in such a way he must have faced some type of violence in his younger years to have had such an extreme reaction. When you are in survival mode or PTSD from prior violence, you feel the need to escape in any manner possible. Definitely does not make it right but there may have been unknown to us factors before this incident. I wish him healing and happiness, even if it takes time.

I put myself in place of both families and as you mentioned, no one wins with this. As a parent show them how to do this. Take ownership and apologize on behalf of their kids wrong actions because I’m sure they both were at fault. Both families have lost with this one. Mourn together and support each other on their loss. Yes one family can never see their son again while the other can visit. But as a parent I would never want to see my child 6 ft under or behind bars. Prayers to both families. May they all find healing .

This situation is sad all around.. 2 young men lost here. the fact that this society has resorted to violence of this nature is just disgusting. my momma heart goes out to both these families! 💔 as far as the punishment.. if this kid has never had any trouble before, then yes 35 years is way too harsh.

I have been debating this case for 14 months! You need to read the court testimonials. 35 years IS NOTHING compared to losing your child, brother, uncle to such a malicious crime!

To hear and watch him crying was devastating 💔it’s rear to hear anyone who makes a huge mistake feel some soft or any level of remorse. I pray gets after 10 years and dose well. I will say I did liked the fact that he had an all white jury!

As a parent myself, I hold myself and my kids to a higher level in this world. But as being the parent the teaching starts at home, and they take that out in the world with them. To me it just seems like his home life was not that healthy. He took out in the world what was taught at home. Question is what has happened in his home and life to make him feel like he had to have a weapon. This should not be about the color of his skin, this should be about a person. He was wrong in bringing a weapon on campus, he was not supposed to be where he was. He was asked to leave multiple times. He stabbed another human being in the heart and killed them. I feel the verdict was correct and the sentencing could of been worse. Even after 35 years he will still be young enough to have a life. This is all so so sad.
