These programs are funded by grants. If enough people don't participate, they can use funding in the future. The more children that participate, the better. 🥰

Then here in Utah we have to eat in a school lunchroom and we aren’t aloud to remove any unfinished food to take home with us….

Wish our schools did this. They do free lunch but you have to go to the school everyday to get it. It’s just hard to do that every day with 3 kids

Our school lunch (for elementary PreK-5 is $4! And forget all the additional things the kids want to buy. We don’t get a damn thing “free”. Welcome to CT.

I love that they do this.we are from Minnesota also and my kids go to the school and get an option of a hot lunch or a sack lunch. they also get an option of breakfast.

This is interesting to me! Where I am in Canada this is not a thing. Parents provide lunch and snacks here. Some schools have special lunch days that parents can buy into. How helpful this would be for families! Also, what about if there are allergies or dietary restrictions?

That’s so great. I’m a lunch lady in northwest Iowa and 2 summers ago we packed all these same kind of lunches. It was hard work but so worth it to help all the kids in our town. The parents were so thankful for what we did. Shoutout to all the lunch ladies out there. 😄

Wait are we using these programs when we don’t necessarily need them? To help keep them going so it looks like so many families need it so keep the program going? Because I always looked at it like we’re taking away from who’s really needing. They must always have enough to go around then

I always refuse to do this because my kids didn’t need it and I thought that if I didn’t do it then that would be more people who needed it would get it then my daughter‘s teacher called me and asked why I wasn’t participating and I told her exactly that I don’t wanna take from other people that may need and she told me that it’s not just for kids in need that it is a whole participation thing and the more that participants they’ll keep getting funding so then of course I helped out and went and got the food but then I go and donated it to the food pantry for families in need.The elderly in my community have very limited resources so it also helps them weekly. Before anyone says I should have not donated it, yes my daughter’s teacher is the one who suggested it. So encourage parents to do it and if they don’t want the food donate it to a food pantry. Help all you can.
