@hopewithholly: This weekend I went to Taste of Charlotte, and white people were definitely not the majority. And honestly? More white people need to be okay with that. Not because we deserve applause for entering diverse spaces. Not because it makes us special. But because if the only spaces you feel comfortable in are spaces where everyone looks like you, talks like you, worships like you, votes like you, and lives like you — your worldview is too small. Being around people who are different from you should not feel threatening. It should make you curious. It should make you humble. It should remind you that the world is bigger than your neighborhood, your church, your family system, or the town you grew up in. And let’s be honest — some people would have walked into that festival, looked around, felt uncomfortable because they were not the majority, and turned around and left. That is not discernment. That is fear. And sometimes, it is prejudice. Leave the bubble. Eat different food. Listen to different music. Visit different cities. Go to different events. Talk to people who do not live the exact same life you do. You do not have to center yourself. You do not have to take over. You do not have to make it weird.
