@perkinsights: Bill Maher and Ben McKenzie argue that if you can right-click and save a Bored Ape NFT JPEG, then the whole thing must be a scam or a Ponzi scheme. But is that really how ownership works? In this video, I walk through why copying an image and owning the original are two very different things. You can buy a poster of a Monet, print it at home, or put it on a postcard, but that doesn’t make the original painting worthless or mean the art market itself is a scam. In fact, art fraud and counterfeiting have existed for centuries, and there are entire books dedicated to the subject. What made Bored Ape NFTs interesting wasn’t that the image couldn’t be copied. It was that, for the first time, ownership of the original digital work could be transparently recorded and verified on a blockchain. The ownership record was essentially coded into the asset itself. Art has always been subjective. People decide what they value. And for some people, there is value in owning a technological first. The Bored Ape collection represented one of the earliest large-scale demonstrations that digital ownership itself could be authenticated and carried with the asset. You don’t have to personally value that innovation, but the fact that something can be copied does not, by itself, make it a Ponzi scheme or a scam. #NFTs #DigitalAssets #Crypto

Also known as digital provenance, digital proof of ownership. You cannot prove that you own the digital asset without the unique hash, which is part of the value. You make a copy of a piece of art, you can’t prove it not a copy. This is a fundamental principle that prevents double spending, and NFTs are not limited to art. The future of real estate is in a digital clone (twin) that is required to create a RWA (Real World Asset) that enables someone to control ownership and usage rights that can’t be done without this technology. Rather than listening to those who don’t fully understand, or staying away from web3 bc of the twittersphere scammy stigma, DYOR (Do Your Own Research)!
