I get to witness the little moments, the milestones, and the ordinary days that somehow become the memories we’ll cherish forever. But gratitude and sacrifice can exist in the same space. You can be thankful for the opportunity while also acknowledging what it costs. The career opportunities you passed up. The financial independence you gave up. The hobbies, goals, and pieces of yourself that get pushed to the back burner because someone has to be the default parent. It doesn’t mean we love our children any less. It doesn’t mean we regret our choices. It just means that caregiving has value, even when it isn’t attached to a paycheck. So when you see a mom at home with her kids, remember that there’s often a lot more behind that picture than people realize. Love, exhaustion, joy, sacrifice, fulfillment, loneliness, purpose—all existing at the same time.
