I used to have a duck lease, deer lease, couldn’t wait for sept 1 dove hunt, ran jug lines and crappie fished all summer. Haven’t done them in 5 years, Now I eat, work sleep.

I gave it all up for my kids. We’ve only taken 1 family vacation, to Mexico, 25 years ago. Too damn expensive. Can’t drive anywhere, we’re land-locked, have to fly or go by ship. I’ve haven’t been out of this town of 35K people in 15 years. This isn’t living, this is simply enduring until the inevitable.

I have a trip planned which I want to do for networking and to ease my transition from my current career into my retirement job…. And I have this feeling it’s not going to happen because of my guilt over just taking a trip for myself even though it’s actually for my family but I would be by myself, several states away, away from my kids for the first time in 10 years because of my choice not my wife’s

doing the same hobby over and over again is boring. Haven't hunted in years, have the skills but don't need the meat. Already read 100+ books (classic literature and non-fiction), feels like I know the ending before I get half way... then the prose annoy me. ...another remake of that movie? Nah. I walk in nature though, thats about it. New music? hmm, seems the band went in a new direction. Travel to a place? Why, so I can observe the same soulless brutalist architecture and tourist traps same as where I live? international travel? Why so I can stare a building I've seen 1000 times before? Art gallery? Why so I can see what new modern artist threw paint on? The thrill is officially gone.
