And, because I get asked this a lot, I thought it would be fun to list what I see as the three most misunderstood ideas floating around. So here goes. First, of course, Stoicism. Stoicism is not about being an emotionless grind setter. It's not about hustling, winning races, and growing muscles. It's about self-control, choice, and being a little bit better every day. One of my favourite Stoics is Seneca, and if you want to find out what I mean, you can check out a great summary of Seneca's letters using the Headway app. Second, evolution. Most people think that the phrase 'the survival of the fittest' means you have to be the strongest, the fastest, and the most ruthless. But fitness isn't about strength. It's about whatever happens to suit the moment. Sometimes that might be being small, or being cooperative, or even just lucky. Finally, Nietzsche. For whatever reason, it just seems to be the internet's most popular philosopher. But his idea of the Übermensch is variously interpreted as being the average Joe or being a fascist overlord. But in reality, it's all about self-actualisation and an autobiographical will to power.
