@philosophyminis: Hello. Today is a paid collaboration with Headway - who are like a Mini Philosophy app for books. Do check out the link in my bio to see what I mean. It's because of generous partners like Headway that allow the Mini Philosophy project to carry on. Here's the transcript: ----- There is a lot of bad philosophy on the internet. And, because I get asked this a lot, I thought it would be fun to list what I see as the three most misunderstood ideas floating around. So here goes. First, of course, Stoicism. Stoicism is not about being an emotionless grind setter. It's not about hustling, winning races, and growing muscles. It's about self-control, choice, and being a little bit better every day. One of my favourite Stoics is Seneca, and if you want to find out what I mean, you can check out a great summary of Seneca's letters using the Headway app. Second, evolution. Most people think that the phrase 'the survival of the fittest' means you have to be the strongest, the fastest, and the most ruthless. But fitness isn't about strength. It's about whatever happens to suit the moment. Sometimes that might be being small, or being cooperative, or even just lucky. Finally, Nietzsche. For whatever reason, it just seems to be the internet's most popular philosopher. But his idea of the Übermensch is variously interpreted as being the average Joe or being a fascist overlord. But in reality, it's all about self-actualisation and an autobiographical will to power. If you want to find out what all of these misunderstood philosophies are actually about, do download the Headway app. It's the closest to a Mini Philosophy app you can actually get. Of course, it's not a replacement for reading books or having philosophical conversations, but like these videos, it's an invitation to explore further, and to explore in your way.

Is Headway legit to learn? I’ve used it for 2 years before but hate that it doesn’t go into depth. Or is there maybe a cheaper/better alternative?

Amazing job at showing self-restraint and not mentioning Ryan Holiday. I certainly don't have that capacity. You have my admiration!.

On evolution...i always read it isn't really about being the strongest. It's about adaptation. Traits survive when they fit the environment they're in. We see this in human psychology too, children have incredible adaptive abilities to navigate relational dynamics.

And many didn’t even read those philosophers, they’re just repeating catchy quotes by them. Nothing wrong with that but it’s not exactly a great way to learn philosophy.

No matter how much philosophy we read, we recognize that in approaching, observing, and attributing the true value of those we know at a given moment, we are subjective and superficial, and we sometimes even get the colors mixed up!
