@doctor_medhat: Some discipline habits feel like they work but they don't. Yelling gets silence, not understanding. Regulate yourself first, correct later. Timeouts can help but only if your child doesn't feel alone in it. Threats just trigger panic. Set clear limits instead. 👶🧠
yelling is valuable to stop a dangerous behavior, but it is also shocking and must be followed by action (calm approach, comfort offered, explanation provided). time outs are best used when a child is disregulated and needs a new, lower stimulation environment to regulate. threats do not work, but identifying actions and consequences does (if you continue to scream, we will have to go to another room. if you throw that iPad, we will put it away for X amount of time. etc). parenting is about boundaries and consistency.

Yelling does not help when you are trying to discipline a person, bc it’s the ego that overtakes in behavioral health, which makes you not think clearly or get to the point for boundaries. Timeouts may help when the child themselves think they might be dangerous to the parents/other people and regulate their thinking to ask clear questions to an adult (however do not isolate a child by themselves). Threats is a BIG NO NO and a red flag to discipline and courage/bravery may discharge flight/fight responses, also trouble trusting people if this happens.

one thing I learned about yelling is if you yell constantly at your child they get used to it so if you yell at your child if there is an emergency (like they are about to run out into the street) a kid who is yelled at constantly is far less likely to listen than a kid who is never yelled at
