@kingcoast2: 🇸🇴 Somali referee Omar Artan has been given a hero’s welcome in Mogadishu after being denied entry to the United States ahead of the World Cup. Artan was set to become the first official from Somalia to referee at a World Cup, after being named on FIFA’s final list for the tournament. But he was blocked from entering the US after arriving in Miami from Istanbul, and FIFA later confirmed he would no longer be able to train or officiate at the tournament. Artan said he was interviewed by border officials for 11 hours and showed them FIFA documents and photos from his refereeing career. 🗣️ “I had the right papers and everything. I had the right visa. I think that they have a problem with my country.” Back home in Somalia, supporters welcomed Artan with flags at the airport. 🗣️ “What happened has happened and it was unfortunate.
