@dr.matthew.parker: 5 things I would never do as a Psychiatrist: 1) Dismiss patients concerns: Finding a Psychiatrist is hard enough, so when a patient gets to a point that they are finally seeing one, every complaint they have is important and deserves attention 2) Assume that every problem needs a medication: Behavioral changes matter! 3) I never start with stimulants for a first treatment of ADD/ADHD symptoms: Start low and go slow 4) I never start two meds for one complaint: Unless this is a true bipolar disorder, I like to start one medication at a time so I know exactly what is working and what isn’t. 5) Never assume only meds are the answer: Meds work, therapy works, both work better together Of course every Psychiatrist practices a bit different, and all have their own philosophies.
