You chose the perfect song. Volodymyr Ivasiuk wanted to bring some folklore elements into the song, but struggled to do so. In the end, he chose the legend of finding red rue on Ivana Kupala celebration. Red rue doesn’t exist. But according to the legends, a person could find it once a year and (depending on interpretation) either make a wish or make someone fall in love with them. The translation of the song is “don’t seek the red rue in the evening, you are the only one for me”. (Ivasiuk was killed by soviets at a relatively young age. He is still one of the most iconic song writers in our history)
