@inspector_fletch: Think your competitors are the enemy? 🤔 Some of the best inspectors I’ve met started out with questions, made mistakes, and needed someone willing to help. This industry gets stronger when experienced inspectors take the time to mentor the new guys coming in. I’d rather help create a great home inspector than watch someone struggle and give our industry a bad name. At the end of the day, we’re all here to protect home buyers and raise the standard of the profession. Don’t be afraid to share knowledge. There are plenty of inspections out there, and a stronger industry benefits everyone. 💪🏠 #dontdothat #homeinspections #realestate #fyp
My husband has been doing it for 20+ years. His reputation is the deal killer. I have taken the courses as well but it is hard. He has contractors that will call him to verify things at times before the finish something and he use to be an instructor as well.

When I inherited my mother house (even though I lived there 35yrs prior), I got an excellent inspector. He went through everything, and not only provided a report through email with various pictures and concerns, but he also puts together for every inspection, a binder for your property. The binder has everything in it from what looks good, could use some help, or in need of repair. It also has timelines of when appliances, roof, garage door, and such last, what jobs usually need a permit or not, and it shows multiple illustrations about how certain things work such as each vent that goes to your roof. It was well worth the inspection to have this little Binder now that you can reference over and over again.

It’s called being a mentor, building a community. In my field, we built an e-mail list serve for folks to ask questions back in the 90s, before the internet. We all grew and learned, even the seasoned veterans cuz there was always something new. It’s still active today as an education environment, and a way to identify gaps in education, regulation and laws. It makes everyone better.

I'm taking courses at the moment to become a home inspector. The inspector who did my house said that once I'm licensed he'll help me out, take me on ride alongs and was amazing about it.
