The residents were worried about being invisible.   Jackson chose the residents.   Marcinho VP, one of Rio's most wanted, shut down his operation for the day and provided security. For free.   The police had jurisdiction on paper. The neighbourhood had it in reality.   That video now has over 1 billion views. The favela became a global symbol of resistance.   Sometimes the people with no official power are the only ones who can actually get things done.
