@mocturn: John Kiriakou was a former CIA officer who became the first US intelligence official to publicly confirm in 2007 that the agency was using waterbo*rding during its post-9/11 interrogation program. Earlier in his career, he had helped lead the 2002 operation that captured Abu Zubaydah, one of the most important Al-Q**da suspects in US custody at the time. Years later, Kiriakou was sentenced to 30 months in prison for revealing the identity of a covert CIA officer, making him the only person connected to the CIA interrogation program to serve jail time. Kiriakou has since argued that while the people who carried out and authorized the interrogations faced no criminal charges, he went to prison for helping expose what was happening behind closed doors.
