@samcarp98: I would never set my phone up to cry on camera before. In this moment after hours sitting here, I felt the need to show what the medical system did to me. For a year now i’ve been fighting for my life A few countries have discontinued use of the med given to me because of what it’s done to people. Compazine & Reglan cause Akathisia in roughly 10–30% of patients, depending on dose and route. These meds can also cause dystonic reactions (muscle spasms, neck twisting, jaw locking, eye rolling) & permanent Dyskinesia (uncontrollable muscle movement) I have all 3 chronically and neurological torture 24/7. These meds are given in the ER every single day I was never informed of the risks of this first generation antipsychotic given to me for NAUSEA I was NOT experiencing for my head pain. If you ask ER nurses or doctors what akathisia is most of them will have no clue and give you more meds that will only make it worse. We as sufferers have to figure out what’s wrong with us. I’ve spoken to many people this has happened to. I’m not alone. I grew up with migraines. This particular week I had a different head pain 24/7 for over a week and I decided to rule out anything serious in the ER that night . I was offered the IV for pain. The IV immediately sent my body into a seizure like episode. Over 50 torturing symptoms since and 4 conditions that are permanent. It will be a year in Aug & I get worse every month This wasn’t my fault & this could have been prevented if I was educated on the risks of this black box warning drug. I have 4 permanent conditions that leave me with no quality of life at age 27. I meet someone new every single week that this happens to and my heart shatters #akathesiaawarness #compazine #chronicillness #bigpharma #dystonia

I took compazine for nausea so I could go to work. I had taken it before without complications. I started to feel very strange at work and told my supervisor I needed to go home. While driving, my eyes literally got stuck looking upwards and I was in a bad accident that I still to this day do not know how I survived. I’m so sorry this is happening to you.

I got akathisia from regalan multiple times. I don't think people can possible understand what it feels like until they get it.

Compazine & reglan should genuinely not be medications used unless the patient and provider are fully aware of all the potential risks. I’ve taken them and had very serious reactions both. I have compazine listed as an allergy in my chart & im thinking of doing the same for reglan after my recent experience.

Sharing your story helps more people than you probably realize. Please don’t feel ashamed for crying on camera. There are people out there who feel seen, understood, and a little less alone because you’re willing to share your pain. That kind of honesty takes courage, and it can make a bigger difference than you know. ❤️

Keep going. I had it for 2.5 years straight with almost no breaks. I’m 4 years in now and while I occasionally get a flare up, I consider myself 95% healed (botched ssri taper). Healing happens. Lean on your family. Stick around. Life is beautiful once you get through it. I thank God every day I get to see.

Currently in EMDR therapy for my last 2 hospital visits from bad reactions to droperidol. It caused severe trust issues with medical providers, panic attacks, and triggered medical OCD.

i was also put on antipsychotics i did not need and ended up in the mental hospital twice in 2 months. extensive assessments NEED to be mandatory before things like this are given. there are so many other options for pain i just cannot understand why that was their first choice in an er… i’m so so sorry.

And this is why I have health anxiety! And I always refuse nausea meds as a person that suffers from chronic migraines. Or any meds tbh. I’m terrified!!!! I also have POTS and my body just does not do well with meds. I believe I have MCAS which many of these medical staff have no idea how bad it is and how sensitive we are to many things. I’m sorry you went through this. ❤️‍🩹

I’m sorry this happened to you but doctors and nurses DO know what akathisia is, and many (MANY) countries use reglan and compazine. And many more patients don’t have reactions to the medications. I have personally had a reaction to compazine that was awful but I don’t think it’s fair to say that doctors and nurses don’t know about medications. Should they do a better job informing patients of medications given and the reason why- yes absolutely.

My comment might not help, but this exact situation happened to me and finally 8 years later I’ve found I can sit still and feel joy for real and not feel terrified. I took a lot of meds for years but the thing that helped me most was lots of time and eventually a short benzodiazepine taper, now I don’t need the meds for it. Akathesia is the worst experience I’ve ever had and you are strong af for still being here through it🩷
