there was a large group of us eating in a nearly empty restaurant in Montmarte. Everyone ordered food and drink until it got to the last person who said she was fine. The waiter sharply pulled the chair out from under her and yelled at her to get out. Unfortunately not the only incident I've had of rudeness or weirdness in Paris but I've been a few times.

I feel like that's the experience everywhere I've been. Anonymity gives people freedom to be rude.

we've been trying to say this! but americans (and brits too) tend to view us through their own understanding of social niceties, which is wildlyyyy different. sometimes cultures clash (ie we think the waiter coming up every 5 minutes to ask you questions is crazy rude, but it's common in the US)

from my experience French people are nice as long as you’re also being nice/polite? like saying bonjour/bon journee when u go into/leave a shop, always saying pls/thank u, etc

That’s kinda a lot of ethnic groups/ countries. “X people hate American tourists who say they are from X country” I’m really willing to bet money that’s not true. I imagine 9/10 it’s a head nod

I’m always found Parisians to be nice! Sure, some people working at busy/super touristy places might not be in the best mood, but that’s normal for literally any big city (bc of course they are over it, it’s a hard job!)
