I'm sorry but that's how I know you didn't pay attention in man of steel. Because he spends just about the entire movie saving people even before he puts on the costume. It's one thing to just say you don't like the movie. It's another to misrepresent a movie and not speak about it fairly. Am I a big Snyder, fan? Not really. Do I like all of his movies? No. Is Superman my least favorite favorite hero? Yes. which is to say? I like a lot of the books more than a majority of the movies and shows I've seen. Instead of making this a this is why James Gunn did it better? Why not talk about which one's actually the better representation of Superman? Tyler Heochlen in my book is the best Superman and my personal favorite. Because he represented all the qualities from man of steel, with none of the James Gunn goofiness in Superman 2025. Although it really is a shame, one of the greatest Superman shows ever made was canceled. Because James Gunn only wanted one Superman in live action.

I like Man of Steel, but I like Gunns Superman more. MoS is cool (but not accurate) but Gunns Superman felt like Superman (hope, Justice, good, etc)

Man of Steel is a good movie. Like I’m not disappointed when I watch it or anything. But if we’re talking about which is the better Superman movie, it’s Gunn’s. Man of Steel was made during a time where edgier takes were pursued because it seemed as if audiences were reaching for more grounded takes on characters (Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Kick-Ass (to a certain degree)). Snyder makes some really great shots and action, but in pursuing a more modernized version of the character for audiences, he stripped away a lot of who Superman is as a character (especially golden age Superman). Gunn’s Superman works so well because it stays true to that core of the character while also successfully modernizing him in a way that’s believable. I say all this, and I do enjoy Snyder’s work immensely, but ultimately this was the better film because it understood its characters better and the story it wanted to tell. It’s not meant to be a philosophical film by any means, the campy comic book nature has always been part of its DNA, and it achieves that

the only thing MoS did better than the new Superman was the leitmotif/a brand NEW superman theme rather than another John Williams recycle. I was hoping David was gonna have his own theme, but nope. It's another Reeves wannabe. No actual personality in the theme. Hope the new Superman movie in the future gives David his OWN leitmotif

James Gunns superman was a man child who needed validation from everyone and was forced to the right thing after people started dying. He was not a well rounded person he seemed like a kid still mentally not someone I would trust could save me in a complex situation dont need identity crisis superman thinking about others opinions instead of just saving me. Man of steel superman was outnumbered by other kryptoians who were bread for war and combat and trained from birth to fight for krypton and he still pulled it off and when he has the choice between protecting random citizens and general zod he killed him ending the chance for krypton to ever rise again. Because he was well rounded well developed we saw him mature in the movie we saw why he was good and continued to be good no matter the cost.

i understand Superman is the Golden Child of DC, the Shining Beacon of Hope and Justice....... that story has been ran into dust so many fucking times, Man Of Steel was a breath of reality that its needed for decades.

I liked the Snyder films a lot. But the Gunn films feel more like reading the comics and that’s what I want in a superhero film. Snyder’s Superman pulls from a small portion of Supes lore. Gunn’s Superman hits all the other aspects of the character and is closer to the Supes everyone knows and loves. Some folks wanted to see the dark side of the Boy Scout. We saw it. It was good. Now we can get back to the most powerful being choosing to do the right thing every time no matter what.

I’m not here to start a debate about which movie is better, but I honestly feel that Zack Snyder shines as a filmmaker when the source material already has a gritty tone without him adding that signature Snyder grit to it. Sucker Punch is super underrated, in my opinion. I also feel he was trying to ride the wave of the Dark Knight trilogy, which worked for Batman but not for Superman.

Agree, Superman snyders was more focused on aura forming and barely saved people and Gunns Superman is bright, colorful, I always hated a dark evil Superman story that’s not Superman

I don’t think Zach Snyder was terrible writer, he did really good on Watchmen but he did not do the great on the Justice League but I think he could possibly make a Great Authority Movie in the new DCU.

there were two different ways of portraying superman not fair to compare it would be like comparing main universe superman to absolute superman. Snyder superman was great for making things more gritty and realistic vs a more comic book heroic story.
