@danielsixten: In Ethiopia, attackers stormed a market and then a church and one detail tells you what really happened. First, to be clear: this isn’t Christians fighting Christians. The victims are Orthodox Christians a minority in this region. They were the ones targeted. On February 26, in the East Arsi Zone of Ethiopia’s Oromia Region, armed men opened fire at a marketplace. Around 20 Orthodox Christians lost their lives along with a Muslim guard. Witnesses say the attackers entered the church shouting religious chants. A priest was among those taken. Two days later, on February 28, they came back. Attackers struck a church again and seven more lives were taken inside. Ethiopia is complicated ethnic and political violence are tangled together. So how do we know this was persecution? Voice of the Martyrs put it this way: when none of the other buildings are touched except the church that’s a target. Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox leaders have all condemned these attacks. Fresh attacks were reported as recently as late May.
